Art of Resin is Art of Dentistry Education’s internationally acclaimed two-day masterclass in aesthetic composite dentistry. Led by Dr. Rhodri Thomas, founder of Art of Dentistry, the course explores structure, colour and the hidden principles that make restorations believable, combining lectures with maximum hands-on learning.

The programme is designed for resin artists who are obsessed with nature and want to understand how to reproduce the morphology, optics and surface character of natural teeth. It is suitable for dentists and dental therapists. Previous composite experience or completion of Art of Foundations may be helpful for the advanced techniques, but Art of Foundations is not a prerequisite.

What you will study

Day one

Hands-on: Natural Class IV

• Reproduce halos, translucency and incisal effects for lifelike results.

Lectures:

• Anatomy of anterior teeth: primary, secondary and tertiary morphology, including macro- and microtexture.
• A cinematic appreciation of the beauty of nature: understand the layers and optics of teeth.
• Principles of composite resins and matrices: material choices and contact-point techniques.
• Polishing masterclass: a simple three-step method.

Day two

Hands-on:

• Mature direct composite veneer: create an aged tooth with a craze line, unique layering and surface polishing.
• Youthful direct composite veneer: create a young tooth with vitality and appropriate incisal details.
• Advanced techniques: achieve polychromatic effects, opacity control, halos, craze lines and internal nuances.

Lectures:

• Advanced clinical cases: follow complex cases step by step through photography and film.
• Masking dark substrates: learn how to mask a dark tooth predictably.
• Advanced layering techniques: explore further methods for creating natural resin effects.
• Maintaining composite resins long-term: understand patient maintenance and protocol.
• The importance of occlusion and planning for success: learn the checkpoints and key factors.

Included with the in-person course

• 16 hours of CE/CPD-approved education.
• Two days of hands-on training, with all materials and equipment provided; there is no need to bring or buy anything. Loupes may be brought if available, but are not essential.
• A comprehensive clinical textbook of 600+ pages and an artisan workbook of 50+ pages.

No separate assessment, attendance threshold, certificate or other completion criterion is specified in the available course information.
